India Alternatives Invests In Frameboxx, IIFM JV

Frameboxx Animation has tied up with Indian Institute of Financial Management (IIFM) and the combined entity has received private equity funding of Rs 28 Cr from private equity firm India Alternatives Investment Advisors Private Limited.

India Alternatives aims to have minority stake in the combined entity.

Frameboxx Animation is an animation and visual effects training institute whereas IIFM offers MBA programs and vocational training in financial services.

Actis, Sequoia Plan Stake Sale In Paras Pharma For $700 Mn

Private equity firm Actis Capital and Sequoia Capital are planning to sell a controlling stake in FMCG company Paras Pharmaceuticals Limited for $700 million.

The private equity firms decided to sell their shares after receiving interest from drugmakers including GlaxoSmithKline, Sanofi-Aventis and Abbott Laboratories.

Actis, a private equity firm that invests in emerging markets, holds about 62% in Paras and Sequoia holds about 8%, while Paras Chairman Girish Patel and employees own the remaining stake.

PE Fund SIDOFI Communication To Buy 10% In Asianet

Mauritius-based private equity fund SIDOFI Communication Investment is set to acquire nearly 10% stake in Kerala-based broadcaster Asianet Communication Limited (ACL), which is backed by leading broadcaster Star TV India.

SIDOFI will buy this stake from another Mauritius-based private equity fund Americorp Ventures. Americorp bought 9.33% stake in Asianet in 2005 for Rs.6.6 crore valuing Asianet at Rs.70 crore.

Clearwater Capital Acquires 9.99% Stake in Oricon Enterprises

Clearwater Capital Partners Singapore Fund III (P) of Singapore, a majority-owned unit of Clearwater Capital Partners has bought 9.99% stake in Oricon Enterprises Limited for Rs.33.8o crore.

It bought 961,641 shares at Rs.351.50 from Beaumaris Investments through open market on BSE.

 

Earlier in Sep 2009, Clearwater Capital has invested Rs 35 crore in Oricon through fully convertible debentures (FCD).

 

Oricon Enterprises manufactures mixed pentane, a petrochemical with industrial applications, and is also into trading in metals and chemicals.

Baer Capital Plans New PE Fund, To Raise $300 Mn

India-focused Baer Capital Partners expects to raise around $300 million for a second private equity fund and plans its first exit by floating a power distribution company.

With the new deals in the pipeline and almost three-fourths of its first fund Beacon India Private Equity Fund been invested, it is planning to raise this new fund for further investments.

Symphony Service Acquires US Based CoreObjects Software

Bangalore-based Symphony Service Corporation has acquired CoreObjects Software Inc, a Los Angeles-based new product development services provider, that specialises in bringing commercially deployable products to market.

With CoreObjects’ engineering delivery centers in Bangalore and Pune, India and its team of highly skilled full-time product engineers and deep vertical market expertise, Symphony Services will expand its offerings in the product development and embedded product development space.

This acquisition also provides Symphony Services access to additional re-usable components and frameworks for product development, including CoreObjects' Smart Objects suite of software assets designed to speed clients' products to market.
