Tata AutoComp Systems is divesting from seat making 50:50 JV Tata Johnson Controls Automotive (TJC) to its partner Johnson Controls.

Incorporated in 1996, TJCAL was a JV between Tata AutoComp and Johnson Control. While TACO is the holding company for the Tata group’s auto component business, JCI is a global market leader in automotive interior systems, and facility management and control, operating in 285 locations worldwide

TJCAL manufactures seating systems in India, with a strong market presence in passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and utility vehicles segments. The company has 11 manufacturing facilities across India, with a combined capacity to manufacture 1.16 Mn sets of automotive seats per year.

TJCAL also has an engineering and design unit in Pune (Maharashtra) for automobile seating systems and interiors, which it uses for captive consumption as well as for servicing JCI.

The company has a subsidiary, Tata Johnson Systems Engineering LLC, in the US, which operates as the engineering division’s onsite wing. The manufacturing division contributes around 80 % of TJCAL’s consolidated revenues, with the remainder coming from the engineering division.

Tata AutoComp is a Tata Group company and is positioned as a manufacturing cum holding company for Tata group in automotive component sector. The company has three business units - Interiors and Plastics Division, Supply Chain Division, and TACO Engineering.

Johnson Controls is a global diversified technology and industrial leader serving customers in more than 150 countries.

The company has around 170,000 employees producing quality products, services and solutions to optimize energy and operational efficiencies of buildings; lead-acid automotive batteries and advanced batteries for hybrid and electric vehicles; and interior systems for automobiles.

Recently, Tata AutoComp exited from JV - Tata Yazaki Autocomp Limited by selling its stake to JV partner Yazaki Corporation; Amtek Auto acquired substantial business interests of German based company, Neumayer Tekfor Group.
