The French government owned postal services company – GeoPost is planning to acquire 40% stake in DTDC Courier & Cargo, ET Stated.

The deal will give exit to Reliance Capital which had invested R70Cr in DTDC in 2006. Utility Energytech and Engineers Pvt Ltd and Sonata Investments Ltd, part of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani group, together hold 39.97% stake in the company.

Promoted by Subhasish Chakraborty in 1990, DTDC Courier & Cargo Ltd is a Express distribution company in India covering both domestic and international services.

In 2006, the Anil Ambani-led group bought a 44% stake in DTDC for R70 Cr. The deal was struck when Chakraborty's brother Debasish decided to opt out due to differences with Subhasish. Later that year, Reliance ADAG reduced its holding to 40%, and DTDC issued that stake as stock options to employees and franchisees.

DTDC has a delivery network covering close to 10,000 Pincodes and international network spans over 240 global destinations supported by its own offices in US, UK, Dubai, Singapore, Canada, Bangladesh, Hongkong, Srilanka, Nepal and Turkey.

In April 2012, the company acquired 52% stake in Eurostar Express, the courier and logistics arm of Dubai's Eurostar Group.

Bangalore headquartered DTDC has its Zonal offices in Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata supported by 300 plus own offices and over 5400 channel partner offices spread across the country delivering over 100 million shipments every year.

GeoPost is a wholly-owned dedicated express logistics subsidiary of Le Groupe La Poste - the French government's postal arm. La Poste Group created GeoPost to consolidate all its investments in the parcels and logistics domain under one holding company. Since 2007, GeoPost has been expanding its footprint across emerging markets through joint ventures or acquisitions in diverse markets like South Africa, China, and Turkey.

In this space in April 2012, DHL acquired 24% stake held by the Lemuir Group in its JV - in DHL Lemuir Logistics for an undisclosed figure.
