Ronnie Screwvala's investment arm, Unilazer Ventures Limited, picked up 8 lakh shares of pre school operator Tree House Education & Accessories Limited.

The investment firm bought the shares at R215.04 per share through bulk deal on BSE amounting to R17.20 Cr.

However Steadview Capital Mauritius sold the corresponding 8.01 lakh shares at a similar rate of R215.01 per share aggregating to R17.22 Cr.

Steadview Capital Management is an India focused hedge fund that makes concentrated long term investments in publicly listed companies across multiple industries.

PE firm Matrix Partners holds 26.41% stake in the company as on September 2012 and others such as Reliance Capital (4.26%), Omidyar Network’s firm On Mauritius (2.61%) have siginificant minority stakes.

Tree House recently increased its authorized share capital from R35.05 Cr to R40 Cr this month.

Incorporated in 2006 by Rajesh Bhatia and Geeta Bhatia, Tree House provides educational services through play group and nursery for kids.

It offers various courses and activities comprising playgroup, nursery, vacation camp, junior KG, senior KG, mother toddler, teacher training, activity or hobby class, and day care services. The company also provides a range of educational services to K-12 schools that include designing curriculum and providing teaching aids, supplying methods for imparting education and organizing extra-curricular activities among others.

The company went public last year raising over R110 Cr.

In the space, LIQVID – an integrated eLearning content solutions company specializing in English language training raised $3 Mn from SBI Ven Capital in August.

Educomp Solutions had planned to raise $250 Mn through international bonds among other options.

Unilazer Ventures, focused on areas such as agriculture, healthcare, education and e-commerce has made prior investments in INI Farms, a Mumbai based horticulture firm and OnContract.com, a contract staffing platform.
