Jacob Ballas has invested R100Cr in engineering infrastructure firm DBM Geotechnics and Constructions Pvt Ltd for a significant minority stake.
Sunil Chawla, partner, Jacob Ballas India, will join the board of DBM Geotechnics. Yes Bank was the sole arranger to the transaction.
DBM Geotechnics will use the funds to expand it's services marine infrastructure construction on both major and non major ports.
Set up in 1990, DBM provides geotechnical services, such as geotechnical investigation (land and marine), piling and micropiling, construction of diaphragm walls, berths, jetties, pre-stressed rock anchoring, and topographic and hydrographic surveys.
It is promoted by D B Mahajan, and his two sons. DBM Geotechnics clientele include Lanco Infratech, JNPT, Mumbia International Airport, Tata Projects, ONGC and Gammon India among others.
Jacob Ballas Capital India Private Limited currently serves as the advisor to three India focused private equity funds - New York Life International India Fund I ($40 Mn); NYLIM Jacob Ballas India Fund III ($440 Mn) and New York Life Investment Management India Fund II ($127 Mn).
Last year in December, Jacob Ballas announced that it expects to invest about R770Cr in India over the next 12 months. The company, backed by New York Life Insurance Co, currently manages funds worth R3,085Cr in India. Jacob Ballas hopes to do 3-5 transactions in the next one year.
Its portfolio companies include Bharti Airtel Ltd, Pipavav Shipyard Ltd, Reliance Infrastructure Ltd, ABG Shipyard Ltd, Sarvana Global Energy Ltd among others.
According to earlier news reports, Jacob Ballas is planning to buyout IDFC Project Equity's stake in Karaikal Port Pvt Ltd and a 5% stake in Religare Finvest, the NBFC controlled by Religare Enterprises for R200Cr.
