Equitas Microfinance Demerges Its Microfinance Biz
Chennai based 
Equitas Micro Finance India Private Limited has demerge its microfinance business .
Post demerger, Equitas will operate as a NBFC cum investment company and the microfinance business will be carried on by Singhivi Investment and Finance Private Limited.
Singhivi Investment and Finance Private Limited is an wholly owned subsidiary of the company.
Through this demerger, the R50Cr NCDs listed on BSE will be transferred to SIFPL which would become subordinate bonds eligible for inclusion as Tier II capital for SIFPL.
Equitas Microfinance was founded in 2007 by P N Vasudevan who had previously been the vice president in Cholamandalam Investment & Finance Co Ltd, where he handled the retail business division comprising of vehicle loans.
In August 2010, Equitas raised R45Cr from Canaan Partners. It has also raised R108Cr from CLSA Capital Partners; while Sequoia bought 10% stake in Equitas from Kalpathi investments.
