ABB India Limited is acquiring Hungary based transformer service company - General Trafo to expand its transformer service offering for distribution and small power transformers. The transaction is expected to close in the coming months and is subject to customary regulatory approvals.

General Trafo provides utility and industrial customers with service solutions for distribution and small power transformers. The company employs about 40 people.

ABB Limited provides engineering, products, solutions, and services in the areas of automation and power technology. The company was formerly known as Asea Brown Boveri Limited and changed its name to ABB Limited in April 2003. ABB Limited is headquartered in Bangalore, India. As of July 27, 2010, ABB Limited operates as a subsidiary of ABB Switzerland Ltd.

This is third acquisition by ABB in this calendar year. In August, it acquired Pune-based COMPSBaldor Electric India Private Limited, from Baldor Holdings Inc., USA and Baldor Electric Switzerland AG, Switzerland, for Rs.35.7 Cr.

Before that, ABB Ltd's holding group, ABB Group had acquired Baldor's USA parent, Baldor Electric Company, USA, for $4.2 Bn in cash. As a result of this, both, Baldor Holdings Inc., USA and Baldor Electric Switzerland AG, were acquired by ABB Group.

Last year, ABB Limited acquired Bangalore-based Metsys Engineering and Consultancy Private Limited (Metsys) for nearly Rs.8.5 Cr.
