Ventureast Life Fund has invested Rs25Cr in Coimbatore based meat processing company - VKS Farms Private Limited. The funds will be used for backward integration and setting up retail outlets.
Shekhar Kundur, General Partner of Ventureast will join the board of VKS Farms.
Founded in 2001, VKS Farms is an integrated meat processing company. Its product mix includes chicken, egg, meat, banana and salt. The The company currently retails its product in 23 company-owned outlets called 'Dola', which it plans to expand to 75 by March 2012. It als exports meat to more than 30 countries.
With assets of over $300Mn under management, VenturEast focuses on high-growth, small and medium enterprises and has offered financial support to 50 projects in technology, healthcare and life sciences and other emerging sectors. There are very few organised players in this business.
Most recently, it invested $4.7Mn in Goli Vada Pav and $500,000 in in IIT Bombay based Education Startup - InOpen Technologies.
