Carlyle Group may acquire stake in Metro Hospitals and Heart Institute. The promoters are looking to sell a minority stake in the company for around $50Mn, but may also go for a major divestment in the hospital group.
Metro Hospitals - founded by Purshotam Lal - operates four hospitals - two in Noida and one each in South Delhi and Meerut. The promoters may also divest stake in another Delhi hospital, owned through a separate family-owned company. These five hospitals have over 600 beds.
There are 40 odd healthcare focused PE/VC funds operating in India. This sector witnessed $144Mn through 16 deals till September this calendar year, against 39 deals worth $1.6Bn in 2010. There were 34 deals worth $290Mn in 2009.
Some of the recent deals in this sector include Acquarius India and Seedfund's $10Mn investment in 
Vaatsalya Healthcare Solutions.Glocal Healthcare System, a lowcost hospital chain, raised its first round of investment of $3.36 Mn from Elevar Equity and Sequoia Capital, while Aureos Capital India invested $10 Mn in BSR Super Speciality Hospitals.
Amri Hospitals - owned by Emami Group is also looking to raise PE funding for expansion. Dubai based DM Healthcare which operates hospitals in South India is talking to Olympus Capital for funding.
