Cholayil Buys Herbal Brand Krishna Thulasi

Cholayil Private Limited has acquired Krishna Thulasi, a herbal soap brand owned by Chennai-based COMPSKrishna Herbals Company Private Limited.

Post-deal, all the Krishna Thualsi brand products, like soap, face gel and shampoo will continue with the same brand tag. The prices and the packaging would also be the same for the time being and the CPL would change these based on market response.

Announcing this, VS Pradeep, MD of Cholayil, said the company has targeted a total turnover of Rs.505 Cr over the next five years, from the current level of Rs.100 Cr.

Krishna Herbals is founded by Dr Vikram Chauhan. Some other products of the company include 'Arjun Tea', various ayurvedic medicines and dietary supplements.

'Medimix', the flagship brand of Chennai-based Cholayil, was launched in 1969 and is currently exported to around 25 countries. It's other brand includes 'Cuticura' talcum powder.

In 2001, CPL had acquired one of Kerala's oldest brands of talcum powder and soap, Cuticura.

CPL has also planned to launch a number of beauty and cosmetic products like hair cream and face cream shortly. It will also launch a low-price soap brand, 'My Sop', for markets like Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.

Cholayil recently started an Ayurvedic treatment division under 'Sadayush' brand by opening a treatment centre in Chennai.

Cholayil has manufacturing plants at Kangeyam in Tamil Nadu, Haridwar in Uttarakhand and Tada in Andhra Pradesh.

Nagarjuna Ayurvedic Group is another Chennai-based firm, which is engaged in the manufacture and distribution of ayurvedic medicines and drugs.

Recently, Wipro Consumer Care And Lighting bought two soap brands - Aramusk and Moloy, from Mumbai-based VVF Ltd.

Last December, Godrej Consumer Products Limited (GCPL) had acquired liquid detergent brand 'Genteel' and hair wash soap 'Swastik Shikakai' from Mumbai-based Priya Kothari family. In 2008, Dabur had acquired Nasik-based Fem Care Pharma, makers of the Fem fairness bleach.
