Lupin Buys Australian Oil And Ointment Brand Goanna
Lupin Limited has acquired the worldwide rights for Australian brand Goanna from Aspen Pharmacare Holdings, through its Australian subsidiary Generic Health Pty Ltd.
With this deal, Lupin will get the rights to the entire range of products under the Goanna brand, including premium therapeutic oils, rubs and ointments.
Founded in 1910, Goanna is used by Australians to provide effective relief of muscular aches and pains and other conditions such as arthritis. The brand is being sold by about 83% pharmacies in Australia. This will expand Lupin's distribution network in Australia.
Lupin intends to add a number of brand extensions to the range to scape up its business with a range of products in the Australian market.

Aspen is a listed pharma company in South Africaa. It supplies branded and generic pharmaceuticals in approximately 100 countries across the globe.
Mumbai-based Lupin is a pharmaceutical firm producing generic and branded formulations and APIs. Lupins manufacturing facilities is spread across India and Japan.
Last year 2010, Lupin acquired controlling stake in Generic Health Pty, which is engaged in marketing, selling and distributing a range of generic pharmaceutical prescription and OTC medications.
For 2010-11, Lupin's sales was Rs. 5706.8 Cr with PAT of Rs. 8,62.6 Cr.
Recently, Bafna Pharmaceuticals Limited was set to buy haemoglobin drug 'Raricap' from Johnson And Johnson, for Rs.21 Cr.
Last December, Surya Pharmaceuticals acquired 'ActiveOn', a leading US-based OTC analgesic drug brand, along with its global marketing rights, for $22 Mn (around Rs.99 Cr) and in March, Piramal Healthcare bought 'i-Pill' brand from Cipla for Rs.95 Cr.
