Ericsson India Acquires Stake in NEA-Backed Novatium Solutions

Ercisson India has acquired a minority stake in Novatium Solutions Pvt Ltd.

Novatium will utilise the funds raised for its expansion plans and to enter in the global market. It will also gain ericsson's technical know-how.

Chennai-based Novatium Solutions is a technology service provider that provides Managed Utility Computing service and builds affordable and simple computing platform to provide comprehensive computing solutions.

Novatium’s Utility Computing as a Service provides end-to-end new age online experience with special emphasis on simple access to information, applications and entertainment content on internet, personalized education, VoIP integration and business productivity suite. For current PC users, it provides access to Linux and Windows Operating systems simultaneously. Novatium’s unique technology delivers an ‘obsolescence-proofcomputing service’ which is superior in performance and simple to use, with substantial savings on investment .

The utility computing involves providing computing services based on ‘Pay as you Use’ utility model. The underlying principle is that users subscribe only to the required applications and resources opted for a desired period.

It has partnerships with leading Indian operators – Bharti, BSNL, MTNL and Tata along with successful pilot and deployments in other countries.

Novatium also specializes in the fields of embedded development, hardware design, server application, integration, and deployment and custom-made services enabling provision of computing for various uses.

In 2007, US-based Venture capital firm New Enterprise Associates (NEA) has made investment in Novatium Solutions.

Ericsson is the provider of technology and services to telecom operators. It provides 2G, 3G and 4G mobile technologies, and also provides support for networks with over 2 billion subscribers.

Ericsson's portfolio comprises mobile and fixed network infrastructure, telecom services, software, broadband and multimedia solutions for operators, enterprises and the media industry. The Sony Ericsson and ST-Ericsson joint ventures provide consumers with feature-rich personal mobile devices.
